Teacher of Philosophy, Secondary School, Temporary

About the Role
We are looking for a temporary Philosophy teacher until the end of the school year. You will be covering lessons for a colleague currently re-integrating into work and unable to teach a full timetable. You will also be giving catch-up lessons to philosophy classes that have missed lessons earlier in the year.
When you work in ESH's Philosophy Department, you will be part of a multicultural team consisting of passionate teachers of philosophy, teaching in four language sections. We are looking for a teacher who is not only intent on encouraging our gifted and talented learners to go beyond the classroom, but who also values the educational journey of all students in the classroom. As a Teacher of Philosophy, you will:
- Deliver engaging Philosophy lessons to students aged 16-18, teaching classes in both Dutch and classes in English, following the European Baccalaureate curriculum.
- Deliver catch-up lessons to classes to help them prepare for their exams.
- Create an inclusive classroom environment where every student’s talent is nurtured.
- Assess students’ progress through formative and summative evaluations, including coursework, oral presentations, and written exams.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the Philosophy Department to develop interdisciplinary learning experiences.
- Attend and participate in departmental meetings, professional development sessions, and European School-related training.
- Full training and support will be provided to help the right candidate adapt to the requirements of the European Baccalaureate curriculum
What We’re Looking For
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Philosophy (First-degree/Eerste graads), or a related subject.
- Ability to teach in Dutch and English (minimum C2 level)
- The ability to speak other European languages is desirable, but not essential.
- Experience teaching students aged 11-18, ideally in international or intercultural settings.
- A creative, inclusive approach to teaching and a willingness to contribute to extra-curricular activities.
- The ability to teach Ethics is desirable but not essential
