Curacao American Preparatory School

The Curacao American Preparatory School, also known as CAPS, is a private English-speakig, K-12 school on the Dutch Caribbean island of Curacao.  CAPS has approximately 180 students and 20 teaching staff.  We have been open since 1994.  We value individuality, critical thinking skills, and creative problem solving. Our small class sizes and family-like atmosphere make CAPS unique.  Classes are taught in English and the school's curriculum is US based with international influences.

We employ kind, hard-working, open-minded, creative, think on your feet, proactive and independent individuals. Staff members must be accepting of all cultures and must also believe in differentiated instruction, as students enter the school at different levels, with different abilities and from different language backgrounds.  Teachers who come to CAPS with the idea that they need to be flexible and help out as and where needed, will be those that fit in the best.  Teachers are expected to be at school at 7:30 AM and the school day ends at 3:30 for them. For students, the day runs from 7:55 - 3:00. On Friday, the school ends at 1:15 and at least once a month, there is a faculty meeting planned for Friday after school. The students are generally well-behaved, kind and respectful of differences in all aspects. For us, respect and responsibility, honesty, kindness and integrity are very important character traits. It is a small school so faculty and staff wear a lot of different hats. We strive to collaborate when possible and look out for and support each other. Hard work is expected from both students and faculty. Teaching periods are 45 minutes long, there is a 5-minute break between periods and a 45 minute lunch period. Teachers have weekly duties and at least one planning period a day.
 

Candidates must have prior experience for their role as well as strong verbal and written English-language skills.  They must be tolerant and understanding of different cultures and backgrounds.  Candidates must also be able and willing to differentiate for a diverse set of learners.
