Omschrijving
From 1 August we are looking for a fully qualified and enthusiastic teacher of English. 
 
The Maerlant-Lyceum is a VTO school which offers its students four hours of English in the lower forms and three hours in the upper forms. On top of that, Drama is taught in English in the lower forms to develop our pupils’ speaking and presentation skills.
 
We offer a lot of variety in our lessons, which adds to the excitement of the students. In a typical week in the lower forms, we teach two lessons from the Cambridge course book and two project lessons, one of which focuses on literature.
All VWO 3 and HAVO 4 students take the Cambridge exam B2 First for Schools. In upper school there is a possibility for our students to continue with the Cambridge programmes C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency. Apart from that, students can develop their debating and lobbying skills when participating in the Model United Nations (MUN).
In year 3, HAVO students go on a language trip to Edinburgh and VWO students to London. These trips are full of activities, and the students stay with British host families, so they can practise their speaking skills.
 
Our department is looking for someone who is
  • proficient in English and has working knowledge of Dutch.
  • experienced in teaching both lower and upper forms of HAVO and VWO.
  • creative, as we develop a lot of our own materials and resources.
  • prepared to do an assessment as part of the application process.

Het Maerlant-Lyceum is een school voor gymnasium, atheneum en havo in de Haagse wijk Benoordenhout. Het Maerlant bestaat  ruim 100 jaar en heeft een rijke historie. De school telt iets meer dan 1100 leerlingen en 100 medewerkers en is gevestigd in een monumentaal gebouw, dat recent is uitgebreid en geheel is gemoderniseerd.

De school kenmerkt zich door een veilige en plezierige leer- en werksfeer en een uitstekende begeleiding van de leerlingen. Het Maerlant schenkt extra aandacht aan drie speerpunten. De school biedt een volwaardig gymnasium en zet zich daarnaast actief in voor aantrekkelijk en kwalitatief hoogstaand bètaonderwijs.
