Opleiding

Opleiding Counseling in education
Omschrijving One of the guidelines of the European Platform is that in the first three forms 50 percent of the curriculum of bi-lingual schools, is covered by lessons in English. In order to reach that target many schools include tutorials (mentoruur) in their bi-lingual schedule. CNA decided to design a special course for this purpose in order to train teachers and counselors at bi-lingual schools in CLIC (Content Learning Integrated Counseling). Within this course you will require that extra dimension that is needed for good counseling.

Who?
Teachers and counselors at bi-lingual schools. As the number of foreign students at Dutch universities and polytechnics is steadily increasing, this course is also open to HBO-WO and BE Counselors who are involved in guiding students from abroad.

Outcome
- you are familiar with principles of counseling interviews
- you are familiar with professional attitude of the counselor
- you are familiar with various stages of a counselling contract
- you are able to separate personal experiences from those of others
- you are able to cope with the opportunities and limitations of a counsellor

Content
The training starts with a brief academic framework, then focuses on practical exercises based on case-histories. You share your experience with the other participants and reflect on their personal responses. In between training sessions you are expected to practice the skills in your own educational setting. Items in the course are: coaching pupils in the process of finding a solution for a problem and stimulating them to become autonomous; committed listening and eliciting questions; observations and giving feedback; reflection on impressions and assessing feelings and more.
